THE CEREMONYDate: Friday, May 18, 2007 RECEPTIONGraduates and their guests are invited to a Reception in the Lobby of Zellerbach Hall immediately following the commencement ceremony. Champagne, strawberries, cookies and sparkling water will be served. SIGN-UPIf you wish to participate in the Anthropology Department's Commencement and/or have your name printed in the program, you must complete the on-line registration form. https://ls.berkeley.edu/commencement/anthropology TICKETSCommencement is a ticketed event. Each attendee must have a ticket to be admitted to commencement. (Graduates and children under the age of two do not need tickets.) Graduates who sign up for commencement by the April 20th deadline will receive four complimentary tickets to the event. Complimentary tickets may be obtained from your adviser (Undergrads-Mary; Grad Students-Ned) beginning April 2. An unlimited number of additional tickets may be purchased at the Anthropology Department beginning April 23. Tickets are $4.00 each. Tickets will be sold M-F from 1-4 pm in room 232 Kroeber. Check, cash or money order only. CEREMONY DETAILS 8:00 a.m. Doors open at Zellerbach. SPEAKERSThere will be a keynote address, delivered by Professor Neslon Graburn, followed by one graduate and one undergraduate student speaker. UNDERGRADUATE PRIZESTwo undergraduate prizes are awarded annually at commencement. Students who submit for the prizes must attend the ceremony; awards are NOT granted in absentia. McCown Prize: This is the departmental award for the outstanding graduating senior. Participants must have a minimum 3.6 GPA in their major coursework. Application consists of 2 papers written for Anthropology courses, 2 letters of recommendation from Anthropology faculty, a personal statement and resume/CV. Kroeber Prize: This is awarded annually for the outstanding Senior Honor Thesis. The deadline to submit Kroeber and McCown prize material is Wednesday, May 2, at 3 pm. Late submissions can not be considered. Questions about the prizes should be directed to Mary Howell. DIPLOMASThe ceremonial scroll you receive at Commencement is not a diploma. Degrees, and thus diplomas, take several months to process. Diplomas are available approximately 4-5 months after each graduation date. Details on diplomas can be found at http://registrar.berkeley.edu PHOTOGRAPHSEach graduating student will have his or her photo taken by Bob Knight Photo as they cross the stage to accept their scroll. Bob Knight Photo will mail proofs to each graduate within one week of the ceremony. There is no obligation to order your graduation photographs. Details can be found at www.bobknightphoto.com/GreInfo.asp REGALIA (aka: Cap & Gown)Cap and gown rentals begin on Monday, February 26, 2007 and continue throughout May. The ASUC store recommends renting early, though you can rent as late as the day of your event. The caps are one size fits all, and the gown size is determined by your height. The rental includes a cap, gown, tassel with drop date, and hood (for Masters and Doctors only). The gown (and hood) must be returned by Friday, June 1, 2007 or a progressive late fee will be charged, and your diploma will be held by the university until payment has been made. You keep the cap and the tassel. Graduate Rentals: includes gown, hood (if applicable), cap, and tassel. HONORS CORDSUndergraduate students completing the Departmental Honors (thesis) program are entitled to wear gold Honors Cords at Commencement. Honors Cords are available for purchase by eligible students at the Graduation Department of the Cal Student Store. GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTSThe Cal Student store sells formal printed announcements. Announcements come in two forms: generic or personalized. Generic announcements come in packs of 10 for $14.00 and include announcements, inner and outer envelopes, and cards upon which you can write your name and degree. Spanish generic announcements are also available in packs of 10 for $14.00. Personalized announcements include your name, major, degree, and day, date, time, and location of your ceremony in the text of the card. They come with inner and outer envelopes and a plastic envelope filer. The minimum order is 25 announcements for $50.00, after which you can order more in sets of 10 for $20.00. You may also include an additional line of text to announce honors, emphasis in, minor, or double major at no extra charge. There is enough room to include two dates on your announcement, so double majors can choose to include both dates if desired. Personalized announcements are available for pick-up 48 hours after receipt of purchase from the Cal Student Store. Pay-to-Park machines located throughout the garage. The Sather Gate Garage is one block from Zellerbach Hall. Entrances on both Durant Avenue and Channing Way (one block west of Telegraph Ave). Pay when you exit at either the cashier booth or the automated pay machines. Sather Gate Garage will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007. During commencements at UC Berkeley, 'S' (student) Permit areas will be open to the public for a $7.00 fee. Drivers must purchase a $7.00 dispenser ticket from the machine in the lot and display on their dashboard. The student lot closest to Zellerbach is located at Channing and Ellsworth (approximately 4 blocks). The $7.00 dispenser ticket is only valid in ‘S’ permit areas; please read parking signs carefully. DISABLED PARKINGA very limited number of designated disabled spaces are available in the MLK Student Union Garage at no charge to the disabled with certified handicapped placards or license plates on a first-come, first-serve basis.
