Instructors often record foreign language audio tapes in the Carlson Studio of the Berkeley Language Center. The mission of the Berkeley Language Center (BLC) in the College of Letters and Science is to improve and strengthen foreign language instruction on the Berkeley campus by keeping teachers informed of new developments in the fields of language pedagogy, second language acquisition, and applied linguistics. The BLC promotes and facilitates the use of new language learning technologies in the classroom.

The Language Media Center (LMC) is an integral and essential component of the Berkeley Language Center. The LMC supports the language and literature instruction programs of the Berkeley campus by providing audio/video/computerized lesson materials; listening, viewing, recording, duplicating and archiving facilities; and related technical and administrative services.
