Campus Expands Foreign Language Course Offerings

Berkeley students seeking to enroll in foreign language courses have cause to celebrate. More than half a million dollars will be allotted to foreign language courses beginning in 2011-12, which will ultimately result in more than 30 additional courses.

Mapping the Earth’s magnetic field – to find oil, track storms or probe the planet’s interior – typically requires expensive satellites. UC Berkeley, physicists have now come up with a much cheaper way to measure the Earth’s magnetic field using only a ground-based laser.

Associate Professor of English Genaro M. Padilla is the new associate dean of L&S's Office of Undergraduate Advising.
