Novelist and UC Berkeley lecturer Vikram Chandra received $1 million with a $300,000 marketing budget from HarperCollins for his 916-page epic "Sacred Games." Chandra, who teaches writing at Cal, divides his time between Berkeley and Mumbai — formerly known as Bombay.

Michael Manga Inspires the Young in More Ways Than One

$2M Grant Creates Keck Macro Lab at UC Berkeley

A $2 million grant awarded by the W.M. Keck Foundation for a new state-of-the-art laboratory at UC Berkeley promises to expand the scope of protein-structure research. The Keck MacroLab will bring into focus the most elusive structures of all, those of large assemblies that make up molecular machines.
