Film Studies Program Elevated to Department Status

This summer Berkeley’s highly regarded and popular Film Studies program will take the notable step of becoming a full-blown department — the first newly created department at Berkeley since 1996. The program serves 100 undergraduate and 30 graduate students.

Tim White Among Time Magazine's 100

UC Berkeley professor Tim White of "Ardi" and "Lucy" fame was named by Time magazine one of 100 people who most affect our world. Since 1981, White's team has collected thousands of fossils from Ethiopia. Their masterpiece, unveiled last October, is one of the oldest (4.4 million-year-old) and most complete skeletons in the human family.
