As Need for Care Grows, Women Fill the Gap

Roseanne Fong named Director of the Office of Undergraduate Advising for L&S

Dean Tyler Stovall, Dean of the Undergraduate Division, is pleased to announce that Roseanne Fong has been named Director of the Office of Undergraduate Advising for the College of Letters and Science.

Saul Perlmutter Awarded 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics

Saul Perlmutter, along with another team working on the same subject, was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work proving that the rate of expansion of the universe is increasing.  Perlmutter will teach an L&S Discovery Course this Spring. His Nobel is the tenth awarded to the Physics department faculty.

English Professor Wins 'Promising Writer' Award

Namwali Serpell, an assistant professor of English and a novelist, is one of the winners of the 2011 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writer’s Award, given annually to six promising women writers. Serpell’s first published story, “Muzungu,” was included in The Best American Short Stories 2009 and was short-listed for the 2010 Caine Prize for African Writing.
