A guide to preparing for graduate school for Berkeley undergraduates in Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences

Get Ready

Is graduate school your goal? If it is—or even if it might be—it's not too early to plan how you're going to get there. Use this as a tool to help you along the way. You can build your skills and lay the groundwork to get you to your graduate school goals, STEP by Step, year by year.

Get Started

To start, click on a cell in the advice grid above. You can begin at your current class level or by topic. Step back for advice that you may have missed or step forward to get ahead. Be sure to visit the many links to services across campus. STEP by Step provides you with valuable academic guidance and information throughout your undergraduate years at Cal. Keep in mind that you don't have to do everything recommended here to be competitive for graduate school. But, the earlier you get started, the better.
